Business Unit Summary

The Remote Production team assists with HSN’s offline production needs. The On Call Scenic Carpenter works closely with the Art Department leads insuring all builds are executed based off the design in either a studio or on location. 

About “On –Call” @ HSN

HSN employs “on call” staff to cover projects, vacation, and periods of high volume.

“On call” means that you are scheduled “as needed”, and you could work a varied schedule from week to week based on our needs and your availability. You may know your schedule a few weeks in advance however you may also be called on short notice.

A Day in the Life
  • Works independently or with other team members with the building of sets, and scenery, painting prop construction
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair of damaged scenery /set elements/props during the production (painting, spackling etc)
  • Transport sets both on campus and at the offsite warehouse
  • Stage and return sets in accordance with the Production Grid (production  shooting  schedule)

Must Haves

  • 3 years previous carpentry and/or scenery experience
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Intermediate knowledge of professional power tools used in a carpentry setting (i.e. table saw, sliding compound miter saw, screw gun/drill, router, pneumatic stapler/nailer, electric or pneumatic sander)
  • Read and comprehend plans or blue prints to build and assemble scenery or props
  • Basic  knowledge of studio equipment including sets, props, cameras and lighting equipment
  • Able to drive 24’ box truck with a manual or standard transmission.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Lifting, pulling, reaching and pushing items over 50 lbs
    • Climbing ladders
    • Balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl
    • Packaging/un-packaging items
    • Standing for extended periods of time
    • Handling objects, tools, or controls
Candidates will be considered in totality of their skills and experience versus strict interpretation of “must haves”. 

Nice to Haves

  • 3 years previous carpentry and/or scenery experience
  • Strong knowledge of studio equipment including sets, props, cameras, and lighting equipment
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Able to build and maintain good working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and personalities
  • Able  to comprehend, read, learn and understand instruction both written and oral
  • Detail oriented
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training or experience
