Director - Category Management (Digital Merchandise)

Business Unit Summary

HSN has had a digital presence since launching our eCommerce site in 1999. Today, HSN’s digital business continues to be the fastest growing part of our business as it engages, entertains, and excites our customers to come in and shop with us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across all of our integrated platforms

Category management teams partner with their buying, marketing and digital production partners to create and manage our customer’s digital shopping experience.  The teams are divisional subject matter experts who analyze customer behavior and develop storefront and product initiatives based on trends.  Category Management is responsible for the financial health of the shopping funnel across all platforms.

A Day in the Life

Reports to the SVP/VP of Digital Commerce.  Under general direction of the SVP of Merchandising, the HSN.com Director serves as a liaison between TV Merchandising, Planning, as well as HSN.com Category Management, Technology and Content/Creative.  Partner with TV Merchants and Planners in formulating and executing strategic category plans that support the global HSN business to drive on and off-air sales.  Assists in developing areas online where we should be expanding assortments and category presentations.  Categories include:  Electronics, Home, Housewares, Culinary & Food, Health & Wellness, and Infomercial.

·Analyze performance against plan; make adjustments to strategy and tactics to maximize performance

·Strong understanding of merchandising and digital financials and metric and the ability to manage conversion

·Keep abreast of industry trends and new product ideas that can be expanded on digital platforms

·Identify gaps in the assortments to influence merchant and vendor partner decisions.

·Develop a marketing cadence for on-air and off-air promotional events, relating to product/market trends, paid search, affiliate marketing and social networking opportunities.

·Analyze business and apply learning's to ongoing strategy.

·Develop tactical plans to meet strategic and financial goals

·Build strong, strategic relationships and communicate strategy to internal and external partners.

·Influence the organization as a key, multi-channel liaison between Executive Leadership, Merchandising, Marketing, Planning, Technology, Mobile and Content/Creative teams.

·Create, communicate and execute merchandising strategies that align with brand and category initiatives while driving sales, margin and customer acquisition.

·Develop a marketing cadence for on-air and off-air promotional events, relating to product/market trends, paid search, affiliate marketing and social networking opportunities.

·Drive assortment expansion efforts by identifying assortment gaps.

·Represent HSN.com for Corporate Multi-Channel and Cross Divisional Events.

·Review and influence monthly financial forecasting at the Divisional or Storefront level.

·Optimize the shopping experience by leveraging site analytics, prioritizing product/promotional campaigns and implementing value-added site enhancements.

·Direct and coordinate the work of the team to ensure timely effective execution of strategy and attainment of goals.

·Collaborate with technology teams to improve merchant tools and systems.

·Conduct buying and key partner trips, as needed.

·Continuously work to improve efficiency and effectiveness of business processes

·Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure customer satisfaction and speed-to-market expectations

Keys to Success

Must Haves:

·        10 plus years’ Digital Commerce experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        5 plus years leading a team, including selection, engagement, performance management, and development.

·        5 years of experience working as a Buyer/Director with a major retailer in related categories and traditional responsibilities.

·        BS/BA

·        Expertise in Digital Commerce KPI’s and experience leveraging KPI’s to drive decisions.

·        Experience utilizing Digital Analytics tools (ex: Coremetrics, Omniture, Google Analytics).

·        Understanding of the merchandising process, product lifecycle and proficient application of retail math.

·        Experience developing customized reports and leveraging data.

·        Ability to analyze reports and draw conclusions/recommendations across divisions

·        Strong organizational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments at the same time.

·        Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to interact and influence professionals at all levels of the organization.

·        Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook (ex. Creating and formatting formulas, links, graphs, charts and presentations)

·        Must be able to think both globally/strategically as well as tactically

·        Strong knowledge of staff development, mentoring and coaching skills

 

Candidates will be considered in totality of their skills and experience versus strict interpretation of “must haves”.

·        BS/BA in Business, Marketing, or Retail Merchandising.
